No matter how you say or spell it … it’s everywhere on the corporate landscape.
Globally we’re seeing companies being impacted by digital in some way, shape or form. There’s rarely an executive team, CEO or Boardroom who’s not having to change for their customers, organisations or people. Sometimes all three.
So, what’s the big news here?
More than ever, organisations everywhere are expected to actually deliver something in the digital arena … beyond just words.
That’s why we are seeing the rise of transformations being coined as ‘Digital’ … adding to the long list of reasons for changes including strategic, organisational, cultural, cost out, back-office, IT, process and so on.
Yes, it’s important to have the right expertise in the right places … from the board to the project teams. But this doesn’t take away the accountability for leaders to do their job which is lead around what’s best for the business.
Five basics to remember:
ONE – Always know your transformational framework
- People come and go from all transformations – situation, purpose, ambitions, direction, and focus must constantly be adjusted and re-enforced.
TWO – Be driven by the business not the technology
- Strong leadership should also constantly be shaping digital to better enable business, not drive it.
THREE – Lead across the organisation
- Digital initiatives usually transcend business units and functions which means strong cross-organisational leadership is critical.
FOUR – Keep the customer front of mind
- Don’t become inwardly focused and forget the fundamentals of business.
FIVE – Remember that your people are vital
- Even companies building robots need people!
